ADOPTION
Considering Adoption?
You may think you are not ready to parent yet due to your circumstances, but having an abortion is not a choice for you – that’s okay! Adoption is another option to consider.
Making an adoption plan can be difficult when facing an unplanned pregnancy, but it can be a viable option for you. Adoption isn’t about “giving up” your baby but ensuring your baby is provided for and taken care of when you can’t do it yourself.
Types of Adoption
You have choices with adoption. There are three different plans to choose from: open, semi-open, and closed. You choose the plan that is best for you and your baby.
Open Adoption
.Open adoption allows for ongoing communication and connection between the birth family and the adoptive family before and after placement. Contact may include letters, emails, phone calls, photos, or in-person visits, depending on the preferences of those involved.
In most open adoptions, identifying information is shared, allowing relationships to develop over time. This type of adoption can help a child maintain a connection to their biological heritage, family history, and medical background while growing up with a better understanding of their unique story.
Semi-Open Adoption
A semi-open adoption offers a balance between privacy and connection. Through an adoption coordinator, you can exchange updates, letters, and photos with the adoptive family while keeping personal information confidential.
This type of adoption allows you to remain connected to your child's journey and find peace of mind knowing they are loved, supported, and cared for.
Closed Adoption
A closed adoption provides the highest level of privacy for both the birth family and the adoptive family. In this type of adoption, an adoption professional helps identify and coordinate the adoptive family, and no direct contact or identifying information is shared between the parties.
After the adoption is finalized, records are maintained according to state laws, offering a confidential adoption option for those who prefer greater privacy throughout the process.
